The 24-year old defenseman totaled six points (three goals, three assists) in 61 games last season. All those numbers were NHL career highs.

Fraser made $500,000 last year on a one-year deal he signed as a restricted free-agent. Since he completed four years of professional hockey, Fraser was eligible to apply for arbitration. He was one of 31 players who filed for arbitration today. His hearing will be held between July 20 and August 4, and a ruling will be handed down 48 hours after that. The Devils can negotiate with him until that date.

It’ll be interesting to see what the cap hit will be with his contract. The decision on his raise will probably depend on whether or not the Devils sign Ilya Kovalchuk. He shouldn’t get a blockbuster deal, but I think he deserves a raise for his play this season.
