Olympics Update: Team USA defeats Switzerland, 3-1.

With Olympic hockey now in full swing, I figured I’d update everyone on the results from the games in which the Devils players are participating. So here’s the recap from the first men’s Olympic hockey game:

Men’s Group A

The US and Switzerland kicked things off today at 3 p.m. with the Americans winning, 3-1. Bobby Ryan (Anaheim Ducks), David Backes (St. Louis Blues) and Ryan Malone (Tampa Bay Lightning) all beat Jonas Hiller (Anaheim Ducks). Roman Wick scored the lone Swiss goal.

Overall, the US played a good game. I watched about 2 1/2 periods, and what I saw is a team with potential. However, they need some time to get used to one another. The line combinations and defensive pairings need some work together, but if this team clicks, I think it can be one of the better teams in the Olympics.

Zach Parise finished the game with three shots on goal. Jamie Langenbrunner only recorded 1 shot. Both played solid games
